Perineal Stapled Resection with Linear Staplers for External Rectal Prolapse

چکیده
and internal prolapse. Rectal prolapse is an anatomic abnormality and requires surgical resection. Numerous procedures have been described for the treatment of complete rectal prolapse, and these are classified as perineal or abdominal approaches. Perineal procedures such as the Delorme procedure, Altemeier operation (perineal rectosigmoidectomy), Thiersch procedure (anal encirclement), McCann procedure, Lockhart-Mummery operation, and Wyatt perineal rectopexy are suitable for older and high-risk patients. The Delorme and Altemeier procedures are the most commonly used perineal procedures. Recently, internal rectal prolapse has been successfully treated with stapled transanal rectal resection (STARR) using circular staplers. Longo developed the Contour® Transtar stapler (STR5G; Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Cin-cinnati, OH) to increase the volume of resected tissue. Then, Roland et al. modified the STARR procedure to resect external rectal prolapse. Tepetes described a local treatment for loop colostomy prolapse using a linear stapling device. Now, we have modified this technique to treat external rectal prolapse using 2 linear staplers.

Perineal stapled prolapse resection (PSPR) for external rectal prolapse in high morbidity patients.
AIM To demonstrated the efficacy an safety of a perineal stapled approach to treat the protrusion of the entire layer of the rectum outside the anus in high morbidity patients. MATHERIALS OF STUDY From February 2012 to april 2013, 7 patients (all female, mean age 74,2 years, range 48-88) were operated in our unit with perineal stapled prolapsed resection (PSPR) approach for a full thickness e...
متن کاملMidterm results after perineal stapled prolapse resection for external rectal prolapse.
BACKGROUND Previous studies showed that perineal stapled prolapse resection for external rectal prolapse improves continence and has short operation times and low complication rates. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the midterm recurrence rates, functional results, and patient satisfaction after perineal stapled prolapse resection. DESIGN This was a retrospective study. SETTI...
متن کاملFunctional outcome after perineal stapled prolapse resection for external rectal prolapse
BACKGROUND A new surgical technique, the Perineal Stapled Prolapse resection (PSP) for external rectal prolapse was introduced in a feasibility study in 2008. This study now presents the first results of a larger patient group with functional outcome in a mid-term follow-up. METHODS From December 2007 to April 2009 PSP was performed by the same surgeon team on patients with external rectal pr...
متن کاملRetrospective analysis of rectal stenosis after anterior resections with or without stapling: rectal stapling is not a “thornless rosary”
Recently, stapler anastomosis is the method of choice in low or ultra low resection for rectal carcinoma. In this study, risk of rectal stricture formation after double stapling colorectal anastomosis was evaluated. We here with presented an invitro investigation and a retrospective analysis of 91 cases of rectal carcinoma treated by low or ultra low anterior resection with hand-sewn or double-...
متن کاملRectal prolapse treatment in elderly patients
Background Rectal prolapse in elderly patients can cause considerable discomfort causing bleeding, itching, wet anus and tenesm. In older patients the gold standard treatment uses a perineal approach. Success obtained by using circular staplers in the treatment of internal prolapses, associated or not with haemorroids or obstructed defecation, may represent a new method of choice if applied wit...
